3 things this chairman can teach you

I highly recommend watching the conversation with Terry Wetherall, chairman of CareSuper. He has a wealth of business knowledge built up over close to 50 years of experience in a diverse range of industries. Three things I picked up included:

  1. Job diversity pays off – Terry has harnessed his experiences in everything from the Chamber of Commerce to running an abattoir. This kind of life diversity really gives a different perspective on the state of the world.
  2. A healthy respect for women in business pays off. Terry talks about the amazing women at the top and at all levels of the business- and the legacy of excellence they have left
  3. Responsibility for people runs deep – if you are responsible for people’s life savings, you can never really take your eye off the ball, or assume all is okay. It’s a constant back and forth with the team to make sure this responsibility is safeguarded. The chair and the board are the modern day ‘protectors of the realm’ for Australians.

These are but a few things I learned from Terry. And the wisdom and experience from my co-host Jenny Josling really put my mind at ease about the future of investments, when COVID-19 is finally over. Well worth watching if you want to feel better about the world.

Why leadership matters more than ever

As we come to the end of latest season of After Hours, the Chairmen of Super, it is worthwhile reflecting on why these leaders are so important right now.
