It’s time to be proud

There are only a few times in your life where you get to part of something so momentous that it will forever be important to you. Having my three boys, marrying my husband, and launching my own business 19 years ago were some of the amazing times on my list. Last week I was lucky enough to add another – launching my first book.

For as long as I can remember I wanted to write a book. But the day wasn’t just about the book or the fact that I had fulfilled a lifelong goal of mine. It was about the feeling of pride and goodwill in the room, as we talked about its purpose. I was so grateful for the support of many of you – and also for the agreement of so many people, that it is our shared mission as an industry.

To make the pension irrelevant for Australians.

I saw a room of people who started to feel proud of their industry again – something that has definitely been taken from all of us as we see the Royal Commission expose issues we are all dismayed about.

The purpose of my book is to wake people up in an entertaining way. I want to wake them up to a financial future that needs to be considered well in advance. If we are ever going to make the pension irrelevant, particularly for middle Australia, our message needs to reach them NOW. Our industry has the power to help people be financially secure more than any other. Advisers, I reiterate, your work is crucial and needed more than ever before. And to our fund managers – you have the power to grow real wealth for Australians over time. Your value to people is immense.

Our guest speakers, Sally Loane and Bryce Doherty, reinforced the need for us to stand united and look forward. Sally made the point that women in particular are extremely vulnerable in their financial future, so I am hoping this book will reach them and get them to action.

It was incredibly rewarding to have the public support at our event of Onevue’s inspirational Managing Director Connie McKeage. Her belief that my optimism and hope for our collective future will help move us forward drove me to go even further. Her investment in growing the potential and reach of No More Practice Education for advisers, fund managers and consumers will be a massive step forward for education. I am eternally grateful.

I would have loved to have our whole community at the launch –  UBS were kind enough to host for me, and one day I hope to have a stadium where all of us can come and celebrate the great work that has been done to help Australians secure their financial futures.

Enjoy the pics of the event, and the videos – and thanks again for each and every one of you who have supported me and our work here at No More Practice Education – you are the reason we will be successful.
