2020 is the advisers’ year

As I write the last post for the year, I can’t help but reflect what a tough one 2019 has been for our industry. The effects of reform, legislation, education standards, challenging markets, public mistrust and bad press cannot be underestimated.

I have been to many industry events that have been subdued and gloomy, and most people I know are calling it one of the most challenging years on record.

Which is why it’s incredibly important to look forward to 2020 and the fresh start it will bring – both as individuals, and as an industry. While I don’t pretend everything will be magically transformed, there is something about starting a new year, that gives you fresh perspective and a renewed vigour and energy to achieve.

Most of the big changes in our industry happened this year. Next year can be a year of rebuilding, and of new ideas. It will also be the year that more Australians look to solidify their financial plan – with 700 Australians retiring every day and more of a focus on saving, paying down debt, and transferring wealth than we have seen for the past 20 years.

What everyone needs is a break. And some time to spend with family and friends, not thinking about what has to be done next. It seems at time that life has become so busy, we often forget to enjoy it, for the simple reason we are running too hard to look up.

Here at NMP Education, we are getting pretty excited about our new show – which we have created specifically for advisers, that will help you identify new clients and explain the value of a great adviser. It is a reality show with real Australians at critical points in their financial lives. We will also be creating tools and CPD to help you grow your practice and client base. We will let you know more when we are back on deck in 2020.

It’s been a good year to hear from thought leaders, and if you want some holiday learning, you can tune into our programming as podcasts on Spotify. Future Talk is our first show to go audio, and there will be plenty more in 2020.

If you missed any of the fascinating CEOs on After Hours, you can watch here or our Practice Matters show with AIA, which over 4000 advisers tuned into. And of course, our show that reach more than 2 million Australians, the Secrets of the Money Masters, can be seen here.

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and restful and safe new year celebration. I thank you all for being part of our community and giving us your most valuable commodity – your time.
