What the Royal Commission didn’t see

It is with a lot of pride we launch our new season of After Hours - CEOs of Super.

Of course, its great content, and the calibre of conversation is exceptional. It also includes my new co-host and someone I deeply respect as a leader, Jenny Josling, the MD of Orbis Investments, who brings her 30 years of experience to the table in a whole new way.

But what I am most excited about is the obvious demonstration of passion and care for super members  - every day Australians, from these incredible female leaders who are running some of the biggest businesses in the country.

While the Royal Commission has been a much needed look at whats wrong with our industry, what it hasn’t done is highlight those who are doing thing extremely well. I have been lucky enough to collaborate with Onevue managing director Connie Mckeage on this project, as the owner of No More Practice Education, who is extremely supportive of promoting and acknowledging excellent women leaders.

While it's tough for any leader out there, its great to see these women approach the role of CEO with a single minded focus of the end client in mind. Our superannuation system is indeed world class, and as you will see when you watch our new series, its no accident, with the calibre of these women.

As the industry changes and structures shift, I am sure there will be a more definitely blurring of the lines between super and retail - between advisers and big super funds. All of these CEOs had very interesting insights into what their challenges were, and where advice could really be utilised.

They also talked about the investments of the future, and where their (massive) funds flow would be directed next.

I've been in the industry 25 years this year - and seen super change from a very new and frontier business, into the biggest industry in Australia today. In fact, I was one of the Founders of the Fund Executives Association more than 20 years ago, which has turned into a dynamic, considered and sophisticated brains trust for leaders in super. It's no accident we are leading the series with Joanna Davison, the CEO of FEAL, to talk about the challenges and opportunities our super CEOs are facing now.

I hope you enjoy watching this series as much as I did making it. The conversations are meant to be watched in the comfort of your own home, relaxed, and released from the business of the day to day. That's why we called it After Hours!

As always, I value your opinion. If you would like to see someone on our next series, or have a comment, please tell us here.

Until next time,
