When I first met Connie I was excited to meet a female chief executive who backs herself, puts her own money into a business she has listed and grown, and moves forward with confidence and passion.

What I was surprised to find though, was her generosity of spirit, willingness to help when there was nothing in it for her, and drive to mentor the next generation of women in the financial services industry.

Connie is, quite simply, an anomaly: a woman who has made it in a man’s world, in a technical industry which she is quietly going about revolutionising. She is not afraid to say exactly what she thinks publically, and certainly won’t back down from a cause if she believes she is right.

Last year I attended a function for female advisers where Connie spoke. At the end of her speech there was silence for a few seconds before the applause kicked in. The women in the room sat spellbound as she spoke about her leadership style, about the right for women to lead as much as men, and how workplace culture needed to change in order for women to truly take their place at the table.

It was not an angry rant. Rather it was hopeful, practical, and quite frankly inspiring. I don’t think that in the 23 years of being in financial services I had heard anyone speak like that, and I’m guessing from the reaction, neither had the rest of the room.

Connie is one of the leaders we need: to be inspired by, to emulate and to believe in.

Her sense of style, her cheerful optimism and her passion make her someone that people love working for, and that people want to see succeed.

Her business, OneVue, has a become the largest unit registry business in the country and she is now going about trying to revolutionise the platform industry and connect directly with the end investor.

It’s a bold vision that takes plenty of energy, and which Connie seems to have endless amounts of.

In our interview, I know Mark was also inspired by Connie and her passion for changing the status quo. It’s a fascinating discussion, full of insight and truth, that I am sure you will enjoy. I know we did.
