When you meet Amanda Gillespie, her quietly spoken, thoughtful conversation style is deceiving. In some ways it disguises her deeply technical thought processes, and incredible work ethic that has seen her rise to the role of chief executive of Lonsec Fiscal Holdings, Australia’s largest independent investment research house.

I have had the pleasure of working for the past four years with Amanda, in her role as a Guardian on our channel 9 TV show, The Investment Series.

And I have to say, I have always both appreciated and admired her willingness to participate in the project – especially in the first season. Explaining the concept of reality TV for funds management was not an idea everyone took to straight away.

Four years, and an audience of 3 million people later, it has proven to be a success, and Amanda’s involvement has been a key reason why.

Her ability to ask technical questions in a way that the average Australian can understand is no mean feat. Combined with her obvious passion for doing the right thing for Australian investors means she has been instrumental in bringing people closer to our industry through her insight.

I have always found Amanda keen to embrace and explore new ideas, and willing to invest her own time and effort to see them come to life. She is a devoted mum of two girls, and like most of us, walks the tightrope of holding down an incredibly big job, whilst being a mum, wife, daughter and friend. The multitude of roles she performs is no small task, but she does so with an element of grace.

Amanda has earned the respect of the industry for her commitment to doing what she’s says she will, and her quiet determination to get things done. Her country upbringing makes her infinitely practical, and she is honest and open in what she considers to be her strengths and weaknesses.

The industry is lucky to have Amanda, and we are too, to have her commitment to bringing Australians closer to advice and investing. I know you will enjoy our conversation; I know Mark and I did.
