SELL YOUR STORY, NOT YOUR PRODUCT

There are very few businesses out there that can openly say ‘we don’t want any more clients’. While we all want more clients, how many businesses employ new, creative tactics to encourage more clients through their doors?

Creativity is one of my main goals in business; however, it comes second to perhaps my most favourite and powerful engagement tool: storytelling.

Simply by telling our story in a way that resonates with our target audience, I have successfully grown my company from the ground up. The trick is to tell your story in a way that not only resonates with your audience, but also triggers them to action and connect with you.

Keeping in mind that most of us make decisions based on emotion, here are three ideas to help you tell your story that will help bring new clients to your business.

1. Tell your purpose – not your product or service. Too often, we get caught up in what we do and how we do it. In order for people to really connect with you with on a level where they seek YOU out, you must let them see what you really stand for.

I believe one of the most effective ways to do this is via video. People want to see who you are, why you love what you do and what is the real reason you do it. These three factors will ultimately make an audience connect with your story.

We recently helped some of our partners share their story. You can find these stories by clicking here. But story telling is not limited to the individual, here’s how we at evolution media told our corporate story. Click here.

2. Distribute this video in ways you have never done before. Don’t just put it on your website. Post it on YouTube. Send an email out to clients and ask them to forward it on. Have it playing in your reception. Write blogs and put links to your video…

3. Host an event and tell your story. By that I mean, invite people to your office, or to a location where they can hear your story, and discover how you have helped your clients. Invite a couple of clients along who can be your ‘case study’. Do a live interview scenario with them where you talk about how your advice made a big difference in their lives.

Telling your story via the people you have helped is a great way to show others how you can help them too.

Storytelling is an art as ancient as mankind. Don’t underestimate the power of your story in bringing new clients through your door.
